January 24th, 2012

Many of us know how to run and lose weight, what most of us don’t think about is how much running can benefit your health as well as this. In fact I probably could write a book on  that subject.

Running is one of those activities you can do by yourself or with others, inside or outside, in the morning or evening (sometimes in the middle of the night), and you will either love it or hate it. Although a lot of people who start out thinking they dislike running end up enjoying it. These are the people who managed to conquer their aversion in order to take advantage of the many positive aspects of running.

What is the best way to run and lose weight? Well, to begin I will just lay down some fundamentals.

Some Running Basics:

1. Begin by stretching before you run. You will want to stretch your leg and calf muscles out fully. This will help with flexibility and prevent you from straining or injuring your muscles.

2. Start your running workout at a slow pace. This will allow your body to warm up and get use to the movements. After a few minutes you can start to speed up a bit (or slow down eve more depending on your fitness!).

3.  Once you have completed your warm up, increase your speed to a jogging speed. Keeping in mind that this is the speed that you will be dropping back to after your run. You should feel comfortable at this speed, with smooth, steady and balanced strides.

4. After you jog at this pace, increase to an even quicker, yet still controllable pace. Running is the key to how you lose weight. If you are on a treadmill, you may want to increase the incline at this point, this will greatly increase your body’s ability to burn fat.

5) Mix up your speed from running to jogging regularly. Those just starting out with running only need to workout for thirty to forty-five minutes, and more experienced athletes might consider running for sixty to ninety minutes.

Mixing your running between fast and steady is what is called HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training. This style of training is what will give your body the best ability to burn fat while you are running.

Why Should You Run To Lose Weight?

Running allows you to burn plenty of calories, more so than if you just sit at home watching TV! Research has concluded that running is one of the best methods you can use to burn calories.

Running in this way while also adhering to a sensible diet is sure to produce the weight and fat loss results you desire.
Secondly, you are exercising your heart, hands, legs and your lungs. Your lung capacity and efficiency will improve as you continue your workouts. Allowing your body to  bring in more oxygen, this maximizes your body’s ability to burn fat.

Lastly, you will achieve a decrease in blood pressure, an increase in circulation, and will experience greater relaxation.
